Paradoxically, that doesn't mean she "had" to do it the way she did... it only means that she did it the way she did it. "Had to" is no less a theory than "could have" ;-) And, in addition to apologizing, I did something better... I stopped treating them like they were responsible for some (imagined) problem I had. She could have gone back to Kansas any time she wanted. It was all right there in the heel of her shoes. She just had to ask. Maybe she had to experience some things first and make some new friends and stand up to the evil witch. Have you apologized to your parents yet? Now this one makes sense.
